My only other acquaintance with these creeping summer flowers has been with those of the scarlet red variety. Bokeh was unintentionally created when I focused on the flowers and leaves of my subject. Cute Black-Capped Chickadee on Branch Notebook

Only the second time I've seen a Mourning Dove, and much closer than my initial encounter with the species. This one was quite calmly sitting high up in a tree while its partner was roosting in a much lower tree across the walking trail. Photographed at Colony Farm Regional Park, a wildlife area for hundreds of migratory birds in Metro Vancouver.

A top-down closeup of several cultivars of sempervivum (also known as live forever, houseleek, and hens and chicks) transplanted from the flowerbed (where they were growing unchecked) to the more controlled setting of a 2-gallon planter. These hardy outdoor plants can survive cold temperatures down to a shocking -40 C, and, as a matter of fact, they were buried in almost 2 feet of snow last winter! Photographed in mid-June 2023.

Now that most of the Dark-Eyed Juncos have left for the mountains, the two Sooty Fox Sparrows who have been here since last fall are more likely to show up at the seed bowls and make everyone else take a number! These large songbirds are not usually willing to pose for the camera, but the green growing season appears to have made them a lot more approachable. Photographed in early April 2017.
