The first swallows to arrive just before spring, and the last ones to leave in the fall, Barn Swallows are a familiar sight in the marshes, mudflats, and wildlife habitats of Metro Vancouver. They are also the most cosmopolitan of swallows, with a range that encompasses more continents and land than any other swallow species. They are rarely still for a moment, and more often seen flying low over grass or high in the skies, catching food for the next generation before returning to winter in Central and South America.
