If living things inspire you to be your best, then this desk mat, which features a rare closeup of a ground foraging Northern Flicker, is for you.
Usually the Northern Flickers I meet like to keep a rather "discreet" 50-foot distance between themselves and the paparazzi. For some inexplicable reason, this male Red-Shafted Northern Flicker decided to forage on the ground ... some 6.5 feet away! Photographed on April 15, 2015, at Boundary Bay Regional Park in Tsawwassen, BC, Canada.
