A Meeting of Hooded Mergansers Metal Ornament

The golfers on the fairway clearly didn't disturb this bunny (who was most likely a former pet aka escapee), who was busy munching away on the delicious and well-manicured greens. This one paused to mug for my camera, and then went right back to chewing on its verdant comestibles, unfazed by the attention.

This is my second visit to Surrey's Elgin Heritage Park, and I really wished to see a Golden-Crowned Kinglet again, my first photos of it on a deciduous tree being nothing but blurs. My wish was granted with one of several accomplished singers in a giant fir tree, a high-energy, multi-tasking (being able to sing, and flit from branch to branch while hunting for insects) Golden-Crowned Kinglet, who nevertheless proved to be a challenging subject to capture.

Nothing says "you complete me" or "your better/other half" than these whimsical, wildlife-themed lovers' mugs. 

Those of you familiar with famous paintings will realize that this is a wildlife spoof of one which sold for quite the pretty penny in 2005. I couldn't resist the opportunity to photograph this out-of-water pair of Northern Pintails at the local wildlife habitat. They were so well behaved and photogenic, and their pose naturally mimicked the subjects of Grant Wood's American Gothic, that to not capture them this way would have been artistically negligent. :)

WWN Colorful Medley of Primula Flowers

This is the first time I've been to Stanley Park in the autumn. On this chilly day, the waters were swimming with so much waterfowl, including American Wigeons, Black Oystercatchers, Surf Scoters, Hooded Mergansers, Common Mergansers, Harlequin Ducks, Double-Crested Cormorants, the odd Pied-Billed Grebe, and hundreds of Barrow's Goldeneyes. What surprised me was how comfortable (and perhaps, even curious) some of these seabirds were with the various human users (bikers, hikers, dogwalkers), of the Stanley Park Seawall. This is the closest I've gotten to one particularly curious Barrow's Goldeneye.

Part brainteaser, part assemble-it-yourself art, this challenging, wildlife-themed puzzle is great for improving muscle memory. This late afternoon closeup of a male Wood Duck ensured that the fading winter sun's rays weren't casting harsh shadows on my subject. This handsome fellow--caught flapping his wings--clearly knew that I wanted solos of him, and was more than happy to oblige me with several angles.
