Curious American Robin in the Grass Metal Ornament

In my opinion, the male Bullock's Oriole is the most gorgeous of the blackbirds we have the opportunity of encountering on the West Coast. He sports cheery bright orange and yellow feathers that contrast with his black and white ones. This handsome fellow was, rather strangely, out in the open, perched on a pear tree in a farm, rather than being high up in the canopy of a forest as is usually the case with these blackbirds. Beautiful Bullock's Oriole the Pear Tree Metal Ornament

An almost perfectly camouflaged female Great Horned Owl attempts to catch some shuteye in the neighbor's 100-foot Douglas Fir on a rainy fall day, only to be subjected to the verbal and physical harangues of nine Northwestern Crows. After three hours, they finally left her to her beauty sleep. Photographed on November 13, 2016.

Great Horned Owl in the Douglas Fir Metal Ornament

A presumed hobby farm escapee, this adult male Mandarin Duck has been seen in the company of the Wood Ducks of Piper Spit. He has called Burnaby Lake home since he was first spotted in 2018. His stunning pastiche of ruffs, dazzling color palette, and "fins" make him such a dreamboat to photograph. Mother Nature left nothing to the artist's imagination when she made this creature! During my second visit to Surrey's Elgin Heritage Park, my wish to see a Golden-Crowned Kinglet again was granted with the appearance of one of several accomplished singers in a giant fir tree. A diminutive but high-energy and multi-tasking bundle of energy--being able to sing, and flit from branch to branch while hunting for insects--the Golden-Crowned Kinglet nevertheless proved to be a challenging subject to capture.
