The second time I've seen Dunlins since first spotting a small flock huddled together in their breeding plumage (with their trademark black belly patches on a cold spring day on the Iona Jetty in 2010). Indulging in a spot of feeding on the shoreline were three were part of a larger group of 10-12, who were fraternizing with a larger flock of Sanderlings (60) and a single out-of-season Semipalmated Plover (not pictured here).

An overcast day is best for capturing the scintillating pink balaclava of the Anna's hummingbird, but that doesn't mean the subject will be any closer! This is the adult male who was given the ouster/bill/boot by a visiting female Rufous hummingbird a few weeks ago. He has since returned, and she is now the visitor. He's sitting on the old plum tree and giving the photographer the eyeball.

Blue Herons are one of the most commonly seen and distinctive birds in Metro Vancouver, frequenting marshes as well as ditches by freeways and highways.

Make pjs, bedroom decor, bags, and so much more with this fabric that features Bewick's Wrens. The first time I've had the opportunity to shoot a Bewick's Wren out in the open, and at fairly close range. This beautiful long-tailed songbird must have sensed that I wanted to photograph it, and returned my curiosity with its own by posing on this branch for a few moments. Photographed in January 2017.

A Curious Bewick's Wren in the Tree Fabric

Add a touch of nature and elegance to the kitchen or dining room with this wildlife-themed glass coaster. 

Being an escapee from an Oregon farm did not diminish the appeal of this adult male Mandarin Duck, whose flight to freedom was rewarded with a constant supply of bird seed and the company of Wood Ducks at Piper Spit. I was gifted with the privilege of his metamorphosis over many agonizingly slow months, as I watched him exchange his post-breeding plumage for the magnificent feathers and stunning color palette that make him a dream to photograph (and a hit with the females of his kind). Mother Nature left nothing to the artist's imagination when she made this creature! Photographed at Burnaby Lake in mid-October 2018.
