As a fan of both Shakespeare and shorebirds, this scene might be alternatively captioned "Baird(s) on the Beach." My meeting them in such close quarters was an unexpected pleasure; a small contingent of these tiny migrants was completely at ease with the photographer in their midst, and continued to feed nonchalantly on aquatic bugs or park themselves on top of the mounds of seaweed nearby. Photographed over the Labour Day 2018 long weekend.

These beautiful, aromatic and showy blooms bloom all summer long into fall and even until the first frost. They are a natural mosquito repellent, and may also keep flower munchers like deer from the pride and joy in your garden. Photographed in mid June and mid July 2016 at local public and private gardens.

It’s not every day that you see big blue fir cones in Vancouver. The abies koreana is an endangered fir found in the mountains of South Korea. This is one of (at least) three such trees planted on the grounds of the UBC Botanical Garden. Photographed in July 2016.

Big Blue Korean Fir Cones Serving Tray

I witnessed a beautiful moment of friendship between these two gorgeous chestnut horses. Were they mother and child; siblings; or simply stablemates? It didn't matter what their relationship to each other was. The importance was the now of the moment. Not even a nicker did I hear pass between them; the simple act of touching spoke volumes for both.

These royal blue Cineraria flowers provide a dazzling (and welcome) burst of color for early spring gardens. Although these African natives and members of the daisy family are self-seeding perennials, I call them "Goldilocks flowers", because they require a very specific amount of rain, sunshine, and temperature to thrive.

The first full day of snow in Metro Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, saw many fluffed up songbirds in the backyard perched on the fruit trees for most of the day, including at least two Cassiar Dark-Eyed Juncos (an intergrade of Slate-Colored and Oregon varieties), like this chubby little number here. I so rarely get the opportunity to photograph female Bushtits. As both genders possess the small greyish/brownish plumage, shape, and size, the golden-colored eyes of the ladies are what distinguish them from the gents. This little lady stopped eating for a few seconds to stare straight into my lens and look into my heart.

Who ya calling a turkey? I spotted this handsome male Ring-Necked Pheasant foraging in the oddest of places ... not a marsh or wild woodland habitat, but the green well-maintained grass of a heritage air park! He did not seem concerned that a couple of camera lenses was trained on him, but, from time to time, would stand up on his legs, flap his wings, and give his best rooster impression, before returning to the task of foraging. On a rather birdless day, seeing this gamebird made my day. Photographed on Good Friday 2017.
