The spoon theory can help people to understand how chronic illness, chronic pain, and disability can be a large impact on a person’s ability to do everyday jobs, get on with work and their social life, and meet long term goals. 

To explain the spoon theory - those people who live with  a chronic illness, chronic pain, or have a disability have limited amounts of energy, and their energy is represented by spoons, so that they only have a limited number of spoons to spend on completing tasks on any given day. This results in these people who live with chronic health conditions having to make many difficult on how they are to spend their limited resources of energy.

Also each day it may take a different number of spoons to complete a given as energy levels can vary considerably from day to day also. Planning for future events can be very challenging when you're unsure of how many spoons you may have at that future date.

Hopefully some spoon merchandize will get people talking and understanding a little better those living with chronic illnesses.
