The typical dachshund is long-bodied and muscular, with short and stubby legs. Its paws are unusually large and paddle-shaped, for efficient digging. It has skin that is loose enough not to tear while tunneling in tight burrows to chase prey. The dachshund has a deep chest to allow enough lung capacity to keep going when hunting. Its snout is long with an increased nose area that absorbs odors. There are three types, classified by their coats: shorthaired, called "smooth"; longhaired; and wire-haired. The cuckoo birds have many different species. The gray European Common Cuckoo is the bird that we associate with most. But these birds come in other colors and the cuckoo is a common name for members of the extensive avian family Cuculidae.  Of the ground cuckoos, the roadrunner, or chaparral  bird, of the southwest deserts is best known.
