The flag of Pennsylvania has a blue field and was adopted on June 13, 1907. The state coat of arms design features a shield crested by a North American bald eagle, horses, and symbols of Pennsylvania's strengths. These symbols include a ship, a clay-red plow, three golden sheaves of wheat, an olive branch, and a cornstalk. The state motto is "Virtue, Liberty, and Independence".
