Christmas Spider Story Paper Ornament Card. The card reads: A widow and her children lived in poverty in a tiny hut. One Christmas Eve they brought in a tree but were too poor for fancy ornaments so they crafted decorations from nature.

That night while they slept, a spider living in the tree and grateful for the care the children had given her home, spent all night weaving delicate webs throughout the branches. As sunlight washed over it the webs turned into strands of silver and gold. When morning came, they woke to a beautiful, sparkling Christmas Tree.

Ukrainians decorate their Christmas trees with little spider ornaments called ‘Pavuchky’ and fake spider webs. They never kill spiders in their home, especially around Christmas time and consider finding a spider or a spider's web on a Christmas tree good luck.

The tradition of using tinsel it is said is because of this story.
