Lord Ganesh, also known as Ganesha or Ganapati, is one of the most revered deities in Hinduism. He is easily recognizable by his elephant head, which symbolizes wisdom, understanding, and a discriminating intellect. Ganesh is the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and is often depicted with a large belly, which represents the universe and the ability to digest both the good and the bad in life.
Ganesh is typically shown with four arms, each holding different symbolic objects: a lotus (symbolizing purity), an axe (to cut off attachments), a modak (a sweet representing spiritual knowledge), and a rope (to pull devotees closer to their goals). In some depictions, he is seen riding a mouse, which signifies the conquest of desires and ego.
Ganesh is known as the remover of obstacles, the patron of arts and sciences, and the deva of intellect and wisdom. He is widely worshipped at the beginning of new ventures, ceremonies, and during festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi.
