Photography by the artist, Angelandspot.  This is a Downy Woodpecker that hangs around and lets the artist get close with the camera as long as there is food for it to eat.  The artist gets so close she could reach out and touch the bird because this Downy is not scared of the artist.

This is one of the four colored plates in the Book, "Rainy Day Stories" Subtitled "A Collection of Poems and Stories for Boys and Girls"  which includes 4 colored plates.  It was published by The Saalfield Publishing Company Chicago *Akron, Ohio * New York in 1915 which therefor makes it in the public domain.  I bought the book just for this image that I really like.  Be on the lookout in the future for more images from the book.
